A natural or real gemstone occurs naturally without any human intervention. The human touch comes in mining the gemstone, cutting it and then polishing it to bring out its beauty. Synthetic gemstones are made by humans and have been available since early 1940s. However, jewelry made in those days did not resemble the real thing. Synthetic stones are of two types depending on the method of creation. The first type is produced in the factory in the same way as natural stones; however, the time taken to create a synthetic stone is less than a natural one. The second type of synthetic stone is grown in the lab to give a more natural looking stone.
