Nearly 75 percent of sun damage occurs when we are out in the sun doing mundane things like walking on the street, riding a bike or driving a car. You do not necessarily have to be at a beach to suffer from sun damage.

There are sun protection supplements that can reduce the damage caused by exposure to sun, and some of them are as follows:

  • Aloe Vera is long known to protect the skin’s immune cells against sun damage. It is extremely useful for protecting skin against sunburn because of its anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, emollient, and antimicrobial actions.
  • Coenzyme Q10 is also known as CoQ10 and ubiquinone. When applied on the skin, it penetrates the layers of the skin and controls the damaging free radical activity caused by the sun.
  • Green tea is an outstanding skin protectant whether it is consumed as dietary supplement or applied topically. It protects the skin against damage to the cell and controls inflammation.
  • Sesame oil is known to decrease the effect of the sun by almost 30 percent. This is in contrast to olive oil, coconut oil and peanut oil that block around 20 percent of the rays of the sun.
  • Carrot seed essential oil is considered to be beneficial for sun-damaged skin. The oil contains beta carotene that protects the skin from ultraviolet rays.
